In India people worship great rivers like the Ganges and the great powers of nature like the Sun, as well as the deities in the temples, by offering incense sticks in large clockwise circles around the object of reverence. The culture is to appreciate creation and its infinite varieties and thus grow in gratitude and devotional love for the Supreme Artist. Only the human being as opposed to the animals, has this ability for self-realization, and one who does not make such an effort must be considered to be wasting the valuable opportunity given. Therefore the utmost attainment for the discerning human being must be the desire for genuine spiritual progress. Any attempt at this will guarantee a future human birth at the minimum. These are the beginning of the teachings of Ancient India.
